A series of 31 photographs (50×70 cm) in the author’s technique: printing on Amalfi handmade paper with subsequent sepia toning. Created in 1980-1983.
The idea of this series appeared after visiting the archaeological excavations of the city of Pompeii.
The most striking impression was made by the remains details which inspired the author to capture the appearing abstract images. On the canvases, you can clearly see the interplay of the Amalfi paper texture, parts of various buildings and small frescoes showing pictures of the distant past. These photographs perfectly prove that photography is capable of being not only an impartial chronicler, but also a fine art item.
